Batman: The Escape was added in 1993 as Texas' only standup coaster. It is still the only standup in Texas and is the only Intamin-built standup in the US. The ride was originally built in 1986 at Six Flags Magic Mountain. It ran at that location for 3 years as Shockwave. After the 1988 season, it was dismantled and sent to Six Flags Great Adventure where it opened in 1990. It operated there for 3 years before being dismantled once more in 1992 to be sent to Six Flags AstroWorld. In 2004, the ride recieved a new paint job to replace the aging all white color scheme that it previously had. The ride is now yellow and dark purple.
