Excalibur opened in 1972 as AstroWorld's first big coaster. It was one of if not the first of the large mine train coasters and is one of the predecessors to the Arrow hyper coaster. When the ride first opened, it was named Dexter Freebish Electric Roller Ride and opened witht he new Country Fair themed area. In 1981, the Country Fair area was renamed Nottingham Village and the Dexter Freebish Electric Roller Ride was renamed Excalibur.
